Dedicated to marine research and conservation, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is known throughout the world for its interactive exhibits and ability to present marine life on a truly grand scale. You can discover life in Monterey's bay without leaving dry land.
Monterey Bay Aquarium Exhibits
You might begin your tour in the Aquarium's matchless near-shore and coastal exhibits that explore the habitat and ecosystem of creatures of the tide-pools. The Outer Bay exhibits, encompassing marine life found in open ocean waters of the temperate Eastern Pacific, give visitors a sense of its enormity. Look through one of the largest windows on the planet—54 feet long and 15 feet tall—into the tallest aquarium exhibit in the world. The Outer Bay holds more than a million gallons of seawater, more than all of our other exhibits combined. Here, graceful predators like soupfin sharks, fast-swimming schools of yellowfin tuna and bonito, California barracuda, sea turtles and ocean sunfish share this habitat. The Vanishing Wildlife exhibit illustrates the threats these animals face, and what you can do to help protect them.
Living Art at the Monterey Bay Aquarium
The most spectacular new exhibit is Jellies: Living Art, a splendid combination of rare and delicate jellies and fine art. Don't miss feeding time in the giant kelp forest exhibit or the sea otter tank!
Families Love Monterey Bay Aquarium
Kids love the "Splash Zone", featuring kid-sized exhibits, South African penguins, and much more. Pop up next to penguins, explore tropical reefs, crawl past a giant clam and see eye-to-eye with moray eels. Families will discover amazing animals in exciting ways.
